LED downlights in Palm Beach, specifically

Beach houses run a lot of light — open-plan living, decks, and rooms that were extended one at a time. Where halogens went into those ceilings they are still drawing ten times what an LED does, and in a timber-framed house the heat they throw into the roof space is its own reason to swap them.

The tip of the peninsula, and a lot of it is holiday houses that sit empty midweek. Homes that are shut up for weeks at a time show problems differently — a fault gets discovered on a Friday night arrival rather than when it starts, and switchboards, hot water and pool gear all suffer from long idle spells followed by heavy weekend use. Waterfront blocks add boatsheds and jetty power to the picture.

What we run into here

Halogen transformers left in the ceiling from a 2000s renovation

Different cut-out sizes room to room, because the lights went in at different times

Damp and salt-affected fittings in bathrooms and on covered decks

Warm layered LED lighting upgrade in a Sydney living room — Palm Beach

LED downlights in Palm Beach, answered

How much does it cost to replace halogen downlights with LED in Palm Beach?

Ten swapped from 50W halogen to LED is $584 including GST, fully installed — about $58 a light. Twenty is $1,096. The calculator on our lighting page prices your exact number as you move the slider.

Is it worth doing the whole house at once?

Usually yes. The access, the setup and the travel happen once, so the price per light falls as the number rises. If you are going to do it eventually, doing it in one visit is the cheaper way.

What is different about lighting in Palm Beach?

Do you have to cut new holes in my ceiling?

Almost never. Most halogens are a 90mm cut-out and the LEDs go straight into the same hole. Where a ceiling has an odd size we match it rather than enlarging it, which matters in older and heritage ceilings.

What happens to the old transformers?

They come out. Leaving them in the ceiling is the shortcut that gets taken and it is both a heat problem and a waste — an LED does not need one. The old fittings and transformers leave with us.

How long does it take and how much mess is there?

Ten lights is a morning. The old ones come out, the new ones go in, and the room is left as it was found. Every job gets a certificate of compliance.
